Lactation Services

Jennifer Day, IBCLC provides in-home consults by appointment.
Please call/text at (248)880-4026

During COVID-19, we have continued providing services in the community using safety protocols, including screening during scheduling and PPE during visits. If a visit is not a viable option for the client or provider, a tele-health/virtual visit is an option to ensure timely, skilled lactation support can be provided with safety as the top priority.

Our lactation services are based upon the premise that human milk is the optimal form of infant nutrition. We also acknowledge that it may have challenges, but with support a difficult beginning may yield a successful journey.
It is our goal to provide you with:
  • a welcoming and inviting environment in the comfort of your home
  • unbiased, evidence-based education, support and resources
  • empowerment to successfully reach your breast/chest feeding goals

What is an IBCLC?
IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. An IBCLC is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breast/chest feeding. This is the highest recognized standard for lactation care, requiring years of experience, education and documentation of competency. There are many forms of peer and professional lactation support but for challenges beyond the scope of a CLC, CLS, CLE, CBE, Peer Counselor, etc  an IBCLC should be part of the team of support.

Community-Based Support

Breastfeeding Support and Education comes in MANY different ways. In general basic breastfeeding concerns or challenges can be addressed with Peer-to-Peer support. The following is a list of services and resources you may find informational or helpful.
Picture
Southeast Michigan IBCLC's of Color
In Detroit, racial inequities lead to breastfeeding rates of about 30 percent for Black families with infant mortality more than twice the national average (1). Southeast Michigan IBCLC’s of Color (SEMI) consistently ‘show up’ for families by providing services, developing advocacy, leveraging relationships, and mentoring countless other professionals entering the field of Black maternal health work. Members of SEMI lead in a vast array of capacities all throughout the region. Our commitment to reducing disparities in Black maternal and infant mortality in the Southeast Michigan region is visible in the significant programming of our organization.

Oakland County Breastfeeding Coalition
Meet, Nurse, Love Breastfeeding Support Group

Meet Nurse Love was founded in 2014 in order to provide a safe and welcoming environment for breastfeeding families to gather, grow and learn together. We encourage the entire family (including, but not limited to fathers, partners, grandparents, and siblings) to participate in our meetings. We believe that moms and moms-to-be will find success on their breastfeeding journeys when they feel supported and have access to resources when they need it most. Meet Nurse Love has grown to become a family of its own.

We welcome you to join us in our new home. We meet from 6pm - 7pm on the second Monday of each month. Meetings are FREE, thanks to one of our amazing community partners, Nature's Playhouse!
